Master Gardener

Today I started the Master Gardener training program at the extension office. It was a full day with classes running from 9 'till 2. The class is a good size, but not huge. I think it will be a fun group of people. I've wanted to become a MG for a number of years and finally signed up. Stay tuned for updates.

Signs Of Life

Just a few of the sights to be seen in the yard today...

The 'Autumn Joy' sedum making a comeback...

Last year I was given some irises. I have no idea what color(s) they will be. Something to look forward to :)

A posse of rogue crocuses popped up next to the curb...

In The Yard

After several bitter cold days, it has warmed up enough that the snow is melting fast. The dogs and I went to check on happenings in the yard. The garlic seems to be okay- both early and late.

And the daffodils are shivering and huddled together, but holding their own. Think warm thoughts!
And Luna, who I believe is jet-propelled, ran faster-than-the-speed-of-light loops around all the bushes and other stationary objects. You know, just 'cause.

Downward Facing Dog

I haven't done yoga in a long while. But scratching Teak's ear has pretty much the same effect. Om....

Huh...

Just a couple days ago, it was warm and lovely outside. As the dogs and I walked the yard I saw that the flower bulbs were shooting up. And the late season garlic was finally making an appearance. I suppose it is the gardeners curse to spend every late winter thinking spring was surely on the doorstep. The night before last it snowed. Just a little. And by midday it was all but gone. I was hopeful that was all we would see of the forecast snow storm. Not so, silly gardener! This picture of the barn (which is really a shed that the former owner built to look like a barn- this is still suburbia after all) doesn't really reflect how much snow is out there. The barn is in a sheltered part of the yard. In order to take this picture, I opened a window that sits above the sunroom. Snow tumbled in the window when I opened it, it had drifted that high on the sunroom roof. I love snow. The dogs love snow. But I am still itchin' to plant things in the ground...
