Master Gardener

Today I started the Master Gardener training program at the extension office. It was a full day with classes running from 9 'till 2. The class is a good size, but not huge. I think it will be a fun group of people. I've wanted to become a MG for a number of years and finally signed up. Stay tuned for updates.

Ah, luckee! Congratulations on starting the program! MGs are awesome. Do you have to do volunteer hours? You are gonna learn so much...

You are right! I went to the class knowing I would learn tons- but I was really sort of blown away by the "aura of knowledge" that hovered around the room full of MGs. There was a relatively small group of them, plus the interns like me, and still the sense of encyclopedic knowledge was palpable.

In addition to the classes, which are 9-2 every Wednesday in March and April, I need to do 40 hours of volunteer work the first year. Each year afterward, I will have to do 20 hours volunteer time plus 10 hours of continuing education. Should be fun!

Good luck with the classes! It sounds a great idea - I'm sure you'll soon have that aura of knowledge!
